Tribute Portfolio, a distinctive brand of independent hotels under the Marriott Bonvoy umbrella, has just made its grand entrance into the breathtakingly beautiful Seychelles with the opening of its newest property, laïla, Seychelles, a Tribute Portfolio Resort. Set in the midst of a natural botanical haven, this boutique sanctuary offers travellers the perfect escape to explore and unwind in one of the world’s most captivating island destinations.
Nestled near Anse Royal, a pristine white sandy beach located on the southeastern coast of Mahé, the Seychelles’ largest island, laïla, Seychelles, a Tribute Portfolio Resort is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered by travellers and locals alike. It offers a serene oasis that celebrates the spirit of the destination while providing guests with a deeply immersive experience that connects them with the community.
“We are excited to introduce laïla, Seychelles, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, to this vibrant, leisure destination,” says Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium & Select Brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International. “As the first Tribute Portfolio property in the Seychelles and further expanding the brand’s footprint in EMEA, this resort showcases the brand’s passion for captivating design and sincere service, while offering unique experiences that allow guests to immerse themselves in the spirit of the destination.”
Designed by the acclaimed MMAC Design, the resort’s calming color palette is beautifully complemented by striking pops of green that pay tribute to the lush tropical surroundings. The 76 customized guest rooms at the resort are meticulously designed with decor elements that draw inspiration from nature, such as the Seychelles’ plant shapes, and incorporate locally-sourced natural materials like wood and rattan that are commonly used in traditional island architecture, including a hand-woven macramé bed board and room separator. The resort’s collection of eight boutique suites, including the Senior Suite, can be selected by families or friend groups, and the Senior Suite comes with a private plunge pool and a terrace that boasts breathtaking vistas of the Indian Ocean and nearby mountains.
With a variety of amenities such as a water sports center, outdoor swimming pool, 24/7 gym, spa, barbershop, and kids’ recreation area, the resort caters to guests who seek to engage in communal experiences. It offers curated village experiences that showcase the Seychellois culture, such as Creole cooking classes, traditional weaving demonstrations, and Moutya music performances, which captivate guests’ minds and allow them to participate in the local spirit.
For guests who want to immerse themselves in local culture, the resort offers day trips to village markets, fishing trips, jungle hikes, and expeditions to nearby islands organized by native guides. In addition, guests can participate in sunrise yoga, jogging on the resort’s tropical trails, making jewelry from foraged shells, or choose from a range of water sports such as paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling at the uninhabited ‘Ile Souris’ coral island, known for its diverse coral fish and sea turtles.
Following a day of exciting activities, guests can unwind at the Iaïla Spa, which offers a wide range of facial and body treatments conducted by skilled therapists. The spa uses natural and locally-sourced ingredients like coconut, vanilla, and cinnamon in its restorative practices, and all products are handmade and organic. The spa has a tranquil ambiance, with natural textures, and botanical elements.
Ideal for foddies, the resort features five restaurants and bars, designed to capture the spirit of the community and attract guests and locals alike. Laroul features an international array of cuisines and cultures with a distinctive Seychellois touch throughout the breakfast and dinner services. Examples of signature dishes feature daily catches from the Indian Ocean and seasonal produce, such as Grilled Red Snapper and Flambé with Star Fruit.
Kafe Kreol Beachside Bar and Restaurant iserves up authentic Creole and Italian cuisine paired with both classic and locally inspired cocktails made with Takamaka Bay rum and fresh local produce such as coconuts and tamarind. For those who like to combine a sip and swim session, the poolside Laroul Bar offers expertly prepared drinks and snacks.
