The Almanac X Prague is a newly opened 204-room hotel that stands out as one of the most iconic Art Deco landmarks in Prague. It is located just a few steps away from the city’s UNESCO-listed Old Town and the historic Wenceslas Square, making it a perfect location for tourists who want to explore the rich cultural heritage of Prague.
The hotel is the first property of the Almanac X lifestyle collection, which is a youthful, culinary-driven offshoot of the Barcelona-born Almanac Hotels. The project was led by local architecture firm Marani and Barcelona’s Tres Cinco Uno interior design studio, who drew inspiration from the building’s 1930s-era glamour and local art and craftsmanship to create a modern, colorful tribute to Czech design.
The former Alcron Hotel, Prague’s first luxury hotel, was frequented by famous personalities such as Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, and Ella Fitzgerald. The hotel has stunning original details such as marble pillars, wood paneling, and an onyx fireplace. The original architect, Alois Krofta, was inspired by the Art Nouveau and Bauhaus movements, as well as the opulence of Gilded Age ocean liners.

Local architecture firm Marani and Barcelona’s Tres Cinco Uno Creative Studio began the refurbishment of the public spaces in 2020, modernizing the century-old landmark. The design team drew inspiration from the colorful and varied buildings, as well as the greenery of Prague. The hotel introduces a color palette inspired by the facades, roofs, and historic buildings of the city. Artworks by local painters such as Lucie Jindrak Skrivankova, Alzbeta Josefy, and Patrik Krissak adorn the walls of the hotel.
The rooms and suites are a balance of historical charm and minimalist restraint, with hardwood floors, wainscot paneling, and bathrooms made of Czech limestone. Glass pendant lighting was added as a nod to the Czech glass tradition. Rooms range from 280 to 322 square feet, while suites span up to 914 square feet. The Presidential Suite, located on the top floor, offers sweeping views over both Prague Castle and the National Museum, with a separate living space, dining room, and kitchenette, making it ideal for an extended stay.

Gastronomy is at the heart of the property, with the ground-floor Alcron Restaurant as the main attraction. Local head-chef Eliška Hromková, formerly of Michelin-starred Kiin Kiin restaurant in Copenhagen, reinterprets classic Czech cuisine with dishes that celebrate regional produce and elevate underappreciated ingredients such as jerusalem artichoke, daikon, and leeks. The plant-forward cuisine is served alongside wine selected by the Alcron sommelier. The Alcron Bar, inspired by Art Deco, serves handcrafted cocktails, and the streetside café offers coffee.
The hotel will debut a rooftop terrace in Summer 2024, where guests can take in panoramic views of the Prague skyline while mingling with locals. As the first property in the experiences-led Almanac X portfolio, the hotel offers bespoke tours and unique excursions specifically for its guests. The tours include a modern architecture walking tour that gives guests an appreciation for the city’s diverse architectural styles, an excursion to the once-industrial-now-hipster dockside neighborhoods of Holešovice and Karlín, and a downhill walking tour of the hilltop Hradčany neighborhood, dominated by the vast Prague Castle complex.
