The Second Annual Anguilla Culinary Experience (ACE) is set to take place from Wednesday, May 3rd to Saturday, May 6th, 2023. The Italian Tourist Press Group named it the “Best Food and Wine Event 2022 (Outside Italy),” and the festival is a showcase of talented chefs from Anguilla and around the world. Chefs will collaborate and bring their skills and creativity to the forefront, showcasing their cuisine at Anguilla’s world-class resorts, luxury villas, and bespoke restaurants.
Throughout the four-day event, guests will have the opportunity to attend chef collaborations, parties, tastings, barbecues, dinners, and other unique culinary experiences. The chefs will incorporate a wide range of influences into their dishes, all made with Anguilla’s fresh ingredients.
A portion of the ACE proceeds will go towards supporting local hospitality training and education initiatives. Wendy Freeman, ACE co-chair and owner of Villa Alegria in Chicago, stated, “Last year’s Anguilla Culinary Experience was a huge success, and we’re looking forward to once again showcasing Anguilla’s history, hospitality, and incredible cuisine. ACE is a labor of love, and we’re grateful for all of the contributions that make it possible. This May, we’re eager to demonstrate why Anguilla is the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean.”
The ACE 2023 will kick off with a party hosted by Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club at the resort’s D Richard’s steakhouse. The guests will be able to sample the diverse cuisine from Aurora’s six restaurants and enjoy signature cocktails made with ingredients grown on-site at the resort’s organic farm and hydroponic gardens. Kevin Carty, General Manager of Aurora Anguilla Resort, said, “We’re honored to host the opening night event of Anguilla Culinary Experience. It’s an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our dining experiences and craft cocktails to guests. The Anguilla Culinary Experience is a true celebration of the island’s rich culinary heritage, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”
From Thursday, May 4th to Saturday, May 6th, Anguilla’s top resorts, restaurants, and villas will present unique dining experiences featuring both resident and guest chefs. For example, Daniele Lippi of Italy’s 2 Michelin-starred Ristorante Acquolina will alternate courses with the resident chef at Savi Beach Club during a seaside dinner that showcases their Italian and Japanese influences. Jennifer Carroll, of Top Chef USA fame, will present a Dinner Extravaganza at Zemi Beach House. Guests will start with a beachfront champagne reception, followed by a private cooking demonstration and sunset dinner on top-ranked Shoal Bay Beach.
The evening will conclude with dessert and a rum tasting by the resort’s certified Rummelier in Zemi’s artisanal cocktail bar, the Rhum Room. Aurora Anguilla Resort will also offer an intimate farm-to-table dinner, highlighting ingredients from the resort’s organic farm and hydroponic gardens.
Chef Carrie Bogar of Veya will partner with a guest chef to present a merged tasting menu at Villa Alegria, showcasing Anguilla’s fresh ingredients and incorporating her “cuisine of the sun” style.
Other participating island restaurants, including Veya, will offer special prix fixe menus on multiple nights. The maximum number of guests allowed will vary by event. More events at venues such as Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, as well as additional guest chefs, will be announced in the near future.
“The Anguilla Culinary Experience is a unique and wonderful addition to our island’s event calendar, a fitting tribute to our extraordinary cuisine and exceptional culinary talents,” stated Stacey Liburd, Anguilla’s Director of Tourism. “The variety of epicurean experiences offered – from private dinners to barbecue beach parties, from gourmet island tours to traditional culinary practices, with the support and participation of our most popular bars and restaurants – all together make ACE the most exciting festival in the Caribbean.”
